First Round success for St. Louis International Students and history is made!
The U16 Division B Volleyball tournament got off to a very successful start with two convincing wins last week. The division B team is made up entirely of International students and, as such, the standard is pretty high. The first match against St. Louis Carrickmacross was very close with some excellent game play and high quality rallies. The second match was against Loretto Balbriggan which was just as exciting, but which had a greater score difference. Winning both matches mean the team goes through to the next round as winners of the group.
This was also a very special match for another reason. After recently training up 12 student referees by Volleyball Ireland, two of these students referred their first match and history was made as Rahmo Ali Hassan and Sara Angel, both in 5th Year, became the first St. Louis students to ever referee a volleyball match.
Let’s hope they, and the other student referees, go on to referee many more games in the future.
Well done to all involved!
