Updated June 23 2021
We extend a very warm St Louis welcome to our incoming first years. Year Heads Ms Róisín Mallon and Ms Gemma Finn, along with Class Teachers, will be on hand to ensure the transition from primary to secondary is as painless as possible for your daughter.
The girls will follow the New Junior Cycle Programme in all of their subjects and will also receive tuition in Wellbeing, which focuses on the development of the whole person, in keeping with our school ethos. Search for a Star takes place every other year and this lends itself beautifully to Wellbeing, developing all six areas of focus through group work in the Class Act category. Time is assigned to this during the Wellbeing hours. We regret that there is no Search for a Star planned for the 2021-2022 school year given the continuing Covid situation, but we look forward to the time when we can once again enjoy the activity with our students.
The girls are also assigned to Fifth Year Cairde to offer peer assistance, as well as staff support, in this exciting, but sometimes overwhelming, period of adjustment to secondary school. Those girls will get in touch with your daughter in the summer before she enters the school, to create a connection even before she becomes a Louis girl.
Some of the many experiences open to the students in their first year are Cáirde led activites in September, as well as a Geography Field Trip, a History Field Trip, participation in sporting and musical activities at lunchtimes and after school. Although some of these activities will be curtailed in the first term, many of the activities will still go ahead in September 2021.
The Guidance Department offers the opportunity to the girls of visits from speakers on various topics and workshops on mindfulness and other aids to enhance their learning environment in St Louis.
