Minutes of Physical Education per week
Physical Education in St. Louis provides our students with the opportunity to develop personally, socially, and physically through participation in physical activities in a safe, challenging and enjoyable environment. Our philosophy is to prepare each of our students for a life of autonomous wellbeing. We aim to motivate our students to choose a lifestyle that is active, healthy and meaningful. Physical education in our school plays a foundational role in developing pathways for physical activity on a day-to-day basis and in the future.
The importance of physical education has always been valued at St. Louis Dundalk and each student participates in 80 minutes of timetabled physical education each week. We apply a holistic approach to the concept of physical activity for our students, recognising the physical, mental, emotional and social dimensions of movement and emphasising the contribution of physical activity to the promotion of individual and group wellbeing. Learning in physical education involves the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills and attitudes central to physical education, together with recognition of its potential for integration across other curriculum areas. Participation in physical activity has only positive benefits including the personal enrichment of the student by developing personal and social skills, and encouraging positive attitudes and values in her interactions.
