We have yet another St. Louis athlete doing us and her country proud this coming week!
PE teacher, Ms Sonya McEneaney, is heading to Italy to play with & captain the Irish Senior Women’s team at the Inline World Championships, which is part of the World Roller Games. There are 12 different sporting disciplines taking part, over 12,000 athletes & over 100 competing nations – kind of like the Olympics for sports on wheels!
Inline hockey is a variant of hockey played on a hard, smooth surface using rollerblades (inline skates) to move, and hockey sticks to pass and shoot a puck. It is similar to the sport of ice hockey which Sonya has also mastered!
This is the Ireland’s team debut at World Championships, though they did compete last summer at Euro Championships and are hoping to build on their impressive performances!
The team’s first game will see them take on Great Britain on Wednesday at 8.20am (Irish time), followed by Australia on Thursday at 11am (Irish time). The later fixtures have yet to be confirmed, but stay tuned!
We will be tuning in to watch the games live & to cheer on the girls in green! You can use the link below to access the livestream (you will need to create a free account first to view & click on ‘Senior Women’) .. P.S. Sonya is number 11!
We are very proud of Sonya and all the team – wishing them every success!
