STEM Subjects.
Pass Rate this Year
In recent years, Governments across the world have placed a particular emphasis on improving the quality of education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This reflects the critical importance of STEM disciplines for modern society. Here in St Louis we have always placed a strong emphasis on STEM subjects. The school has a national reputation for its results in Technology which has been part of our curriculum for 25 years now. We also offer Higher Level Maths, Chemistry and Physics and our students had a 100% pass rate this year with many achieving H1 in their chosen STEM subjects.
One of our Junior Cert students this year was chosen for the Irish European Union Science Olympiad. The competition which takes place in October will see our St Louis student Hannah compete for a place in the European final in May in Portugal. This excellence is reflected in results year on year.
We offer Science as a core subject for our first years with at least one and sometimes two Technology classes as well.
As a Google school we use Chrome books across the school and with a recent ICT grant updated our wifi speeds to enhance teaching and learning. Students in second year are getting classes in Digital Media Literacy, part of the New Junior Cycle Short Course. Last year students from DkIT delivered a coding programme to TY students and this link has been enhanced by our short stay in DkIT last May, and continues again this year.
